Steps of the Vampire Facelift® Procedure or PRP Facial

A Vampire Facelift is a non-surgical procedure that combines injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) extracted from your blood with hyaluronic acid–based dermal fillers.

The treatment provides both instant gratifications—the fillers immediately smooth lines and wrinkles, soften creases, enhance facial contours, and restore volume loss—and longer-term improvements in skin tone and texture over the next two to three months, from the growth factors in PRP.

(1) The injector uses HA fillers to create a beautiful shape. Then, the physician isolates growth factors from the patient’s blood. When these growth factors enter the face (injected by the physician), then multi-potent stem cells become activated to grow new tissue. This new tissue includes new collagen, new fatty tissue (for smoothness), and new blood vessels (for a healthy glow).

Creating a Beautiful & Natural Shape

In the first part of the Vampire FaceLift® procedure, the physician uses a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler (like Restylane or Juvederm) in a very specific way to sculpt a younger-appearing face–while still keeping the shape natural.

Providers of the Vampire Facelift (R) procedure take into account the mathematics of beauty to avoid creating an unnatural shape at all costs. These ideas about the HA fillers are not commonly known even among the best of cosmetic surgeons and constitute part of the intellectual property protected by the trademarked name (Vampire Facelift®).

After creating a younger, natural shape, the physician harvests growth factors from the woman’s blood (hence the name Vampire) that her body would usually use to heal damaged tissue.

(2) Isolating & Activating the Magic from Your Blood

First, Lynne draws about two teaspoons of blood. Then, using a centrifuge, isolates platelets from that blood (platelet-rich plasma or PRP)–all within about 10 minutes in the office

Those activated platelets cause the release from the platelets, and eight plus growth factors heal injured tissue. These growth factors work like magic to generate increased collagen & new blood flow. Rejuvenating your skin to renew is precisely what these growth factors put back in your face.

(3) Injecting the Magic into Your Face

Using numbing cream and a tiny needle (for almost no pain), the physician injects the woman’s growth factors back into her face in a particular way. These growth factors then activate multi-potent stem cells already in the skin (tricking them into “thinking” there’s been an injury and new younger tissue should generate).

What can you expect afterward?

Afterward, you’ll look and feel like you have a sunburn, perhaps accompanied by some mild bleeding and bruising. Your skin will be extra sensitive, so protect it from anything that might cause irritation for two to three days:

  • Strip your skin-care routine down to the basics: a gentle cleanser and a simple, hydrating moisturizer; but don’t wash your face for at least six hours after your treatment, to allow the PRP time to sink in.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and be diligent about applying sunscreen. Physical sunblocks that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are less likely to irritate.

  • Go makeup-free. Remember, your skin has tiny holes, so anything you apply could penetrate below the surface.

  • Don’t work up a sweat. Sweat contains bacteria that can aggravate sensitive skin.

The recovery time shouldn’t be longer than a week, but your skin may remain sensitive for a little longer. “Your face will be dry and a little flaky for up to two weeks after the procedure,” explains Lynne Worthington, from Fountain of Youth Medical here in East Tennessee. “This is because the dead skin breaks up, and the tiny perforations will initially allow moisture to escape.”
