5 Tips for the New Year

Look and Feel Younger

As we begin a new year, many of us make resolutions to improve the quality of our life.Now more than ever, we’re empowered to take our health, wellness and beauty into our own hands. These five tips are a great starting point to enter the new year looking and feeling our best.

Take Care of Your Skin

How we look does affect how we feel – and taking good care of your skin is one of the most important things you can do to look and feel younger. A regular routine of cleansing, exfoliation, moisturizing, and sunscreen will help keep your skin fresh and youthful looking, no matter what your age.

To achieve a more vibrant youthful look, it’s also a good idea to take the “less is more philosophy” with cosmetics. Wearing too much makeup often ages you, which is the exact opposite effect you’re going for.

Get Moving

Regular exercise really does keep you looking and feeling your best, regardless of your current baseline fitness level. Exercise also gets the heart pumping, increases circulation, and releases feel-good hormones into your body. Regular exercise can also reduce inflammation and improve balance and flexibility – all of this is important for reducing the risk of injury as we age.

Being active also gives your skin a nice healthy glow that lasts long after you’ve completed your workout.

Smile Wide

Smiling is an instant facelift. A person who’s scowling looks instantly older than someone of the same age who’s sporting a sunny disposition and a smile. Looking on the bright side of life is important for looking and feeling younger, but that isn’t all we’re talking about here.

To have your brightest, most beautiful smile, you must take care of your teeth. Good oral hygiene not only promotes a beautiful smile, it reduces inflammation which can predispose you to chronic (and aging) health issues.

Slow Down and Meditate

Life gets busy, but most of us can (and should) find time to slow down, quiet our minds and just sit for 5 to 10 minutes a day. This is all you need to start a regular meditation practice.

Meditation helps to relax, relieve tension, and promote better sleep habits -- all of which are beneficial in presenting a fresher looking face to the world. Meditation also helps to promote balance, calm the spirit, and promote a feeling of connection to the world around you.

Practice Gratitude

To practice daily gratitude, you don’t need to necessarily search for something that’s “big and important” to you. The point is to stop, reflect, and see the world around you in a more positive light. Having more positive feelings and energy will not only show up on your face, illuminating a more beautiful you, but will also be infectious to the others around you.

As we journey through life, it’s important that we maintain our youthful mentality and a positive, healthy attitude…especially if we want to continue to look more youthful as well.
